Hunter and Pippin Take a Vacation

Our dear friends went to the beach, but their canines , Hunter (a golden retriever) and Pippin (a Welsh corgi) decided they'd rather vacation with us here at the farm.

Here they are helping Tricia Ann can some peaches.Later, they helped Jacob study his American Government.

Of course, they took some time out to simply get in some rest and relaxation.

And Gimli decided to chill out for a while, too. So he plopped down in his favorite spot -- the air vent!

Pastured Poultry

Batch #1 is now at the midpoint of 4 weeks. They are growing nicely. They are now at the stage where they look like they've outgrown their feathers.

Hollyhocks

Finally, after waiting all summer for my hollyhocks to bloom, here they are!!! They are about six feet tall, and very pretty. They are supposed to be assorted colors, but so far only two are blooming, and they are both bright pink.

Herb Garden

Here are the pictures of my herb garden that I promised to post. I'm growing thyme, rosemary, oregano, lemon basil, lemon balm, 2 kinds of mint, calendula, sage, chives, and lavender, along with various and sundry kinds of flowers. In my square foot garden I have chamomile, feverfew, parsley, basil and cilantro. I planted several other kinds of herbs, but the seeds never germinated.

Doyle Lawson, 4whlrs, and Waterballoons

Some of our good friends came up to spend the weekend with us. Friday Night we went to a Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver concert. I was very disappointed at the performance. Their CD is much better. When we got home from said concert, somebody started throwing waterballoons, which led to a full-fledged war. All the water balloons were soon disposed of, and 6 gallon buckets were put into commission. The original idea was to throw the water out of the bucket onto somebody. Somebody thought throwing water was too tame, so they resorted to throwing the bucket. Midnight came and went. Bedtime...

With the new day, I was assisted in my chores by my able-bodied comrade. The whole party took part in 4whlr-riding with no incident or injuries...or major ones, anyway. I don't know about anybody else, but I had a great time playing volleyball. I think that is one of my favorite sports.

Our neighbors graciously lent us their boxblade for filling a hole in the middle of our pasture. The use of this implement made the work go quickly. We had hotdogs for lunch on Saturday, followed by homemade icecream.

A View from the Herb Garden

Philip witnessed this beautiful sunset last week. This is a shot he took from Tricia Ann's herb garden. Isn't it spectacular?

Blessed be the name of the LORD
From this time forth and forevermore!
From the rising of the sun to its going down
The LORD’s name is to be praised.

Chicks

The chicks have arrived! They all look vigorous and healthy. Fourteen days is the approximate time they will be in the brooder. The brooder is approx. 5x5. A 4x3 hover with lights provides adequate heat (90-95 degrees). The chicks can regulate their temperature by moving toward or away from the lights.

Feel free to post comments and questions.
