Pizza Picnic

Thursday evening, we ordered pizza and had a picnic in the unfinished shed.

Phase 3: Framing

Pop pop and Maw maw came to help us again
today. It's been incredibly HOT all day long!

While the men worked on the new shed, Maw maw and I picked green beans and did some weeding. This morning she overhauled the old flower bed on one side of the house, planted new plants in it, and spread mulch in it. The bed now looks very pretty.

On the Front Porch

On the Lord's Day evening, we all sat out on the front porch and watched the sunset. It was quite lovely , and the weather was wonderful.

Phase 2: Floor

"Measure twice, cut once!" That's what Pop pop always tells us.
He and Maw maw came to help with the shed today.

A Unique Flower

I found this flower while romping around the pasture with Gimli. I had never seen one like this before. It looks like something from a Dr. Seuss book. We also found a humming bird, a frog, and lots of bees.

Peaches, Peaches, Peaches

Monday morning, Mom and I went to the local farmer's market and bought about 75 pounds of peaches. Ever since, we have been peeling, slicing, boiling, canning, and freezing those peaches. It is an incredibly sticky business! We first made 32 half-pints of peach jam, then we canned 9 quarts of sliced peaches, after that we made peach bread, then we put about 18 pints of peaches in the freezer, and tomorrow we are going to make fried peach pies.

Saturday Night Auction

Saturday evening we visited the Coker Sale Barn for the weekly livestock auction. For three hours we watched as several hundred chickens (I'm not exaggerating) were sold. Occasionally, between the poultry sales, some rabbits or ducks were auctioned. It was rather comical to see the sellers hold up the chickens by their feet so everyone could see the merchandise, then shove them through the fence bars and hand them to the buyer. Hopefully next time we go to the Sale Barn, we will be buying some of those chickens!

A Parsimonious Path

Philip took an abbreviated break from Lingo Software this afternoon to help Jacob lay a path from the back deck to the carport using old bricks found around the yard. We hope this will help cut down on the amount of red clay that's being tracked into the house until we can get some grass planted this fall.

The completed concourse! Good work, men!

Gimli the Farm Dog

Gimli LOVES to play outside on his
farm and chase his new kitten.

Redneck Chair Disassembly

This evening Jacob had to break down some chairs
so that he could fit them into garbage bags.

4th of July

We headed to the Lovett's house at about 15:00. I drove, Dad worked. Some spent the afternoon kicking soccer balls around while others did a little jawin'. We ate a dinner of dogs, burgers, and potato salad.

After our delectible meal, we detinated some fireworks...and launched some out of The Termitator. After family worship and psalm-singing, we bid adieu to our dear friends.
